    While many dogs need coats and other pet clothes to protect them from the cold, breeds that thrive in lower temperatures can benefit from protection from other elements. The coverage of pet clothes can minimize cleanup in the rain, slush, and mud and allow your dog to spend more time outside!

    Buying the best dog clothes starts with a warm jacket for your dog. The best option will depend on your dog’s needs, your preferences, and the environment you’re living in! Many pet parents are living in a very cold or wet climate, prefer one type of closure, or have a dog with a unique body shape.     Measuring your dog is the most accurate way to ensure the right fit for pet clothes! The measurements we use are the chest circumference (around the widest part of the chest), back length (from the collar to the base of the tail), and neck circumference (around the neck).     In an ideal fit for dog apparel, the sweater for example ends at the base of the tail and is not gaping in the chest. Many times, there will be multiple sizes that can be functional for your pup, but we suggest prioritizing that your puppy’s clothes fit in the chest to keep them warmer and avoid any accidents! It’s okay for it to be a few inches short of the tail or have a little extra room in the chest as long as they’re comfortable and have a full range of motion.     The Slush Suit and Snow Suit have the same fit and are both water-resistant dog apparel, but the Snow Suit has some faux-down and a thermal lining to add warmth and keep body heat in. The Slush Suit is great for moderate weather or for pups who don’t need extra warm dog clothes in the winter!

    Harnesses can be layered with all kinds of our warm pet clothes - we recommend putting the harness on first to ensure a good fit, and then the dog apparel over top. All Canada Pooch coats and knits do have a slit along the back that allows for a leash to attach to a harness!
