A good fit in the harness is essential to keep your pup safe! As a general guide, the harness should be snug in the neck and chest, but you should be able to fit two fingers between the straps and your pup’s body. If you’re unsure if the fit is right, our Product Experts are always happy to take a look - reach out to us!
Our harnesses have two buckles - one for the neck strap and another for the chest strap. When it comes to putting on a dog harness, the easiest way is to undo both buckles and place the harness on your pup's back. Once it is placed, you can put your pup's leg through and then do both buckles up. This same method can be used by placing the harness on the floor and having your pup step into the harness, and bringing the straps up around them.
The best no-pull dog harnesses have the option of a front clip to change the point of leverage, so when your pup pulls, the harness simply redirects the dog to the side and back towards you! The harness will help deter pulling on its own, but you’ll also be teaching your pet that a loose leash is the only way they will proceed with their walk, and a tight leash means they have to stop moving. The front clip sits at a point on the dog's chest where it should not cause any unwanted neck tension, making it the best harness for dogs that pull. You can also attach two leashes to both clips to allow for full-body control, which is a safe option for dogs that pull.
Harnesses can be layered with outerwear or cooling gear - we recommend putting the harness on first to ensure a good fit. At Canada Pooch, you’ll find the best apparel and harnesses for small or large dogs. All our coats and knits have a slit along the back that allows for a leash to attach to a harness!
The Mesh and Water-Resistant Series have the same fit and no-pull function! The only difference is in the outer layer of the harness - the Mesh is more breathable while the Water-Resistant is easy to wipe down!
With our Everything Harness, you can use either a belt-style seatbelt or a cross-body style seatbelt to feed through the large fabric loop on the back of the dog harness! You just need to pull the seat belt tether through the back fabric loop on the harness and buckle the seatbelt in. This helps to stop your pup from moving around throughout the car!
